Directed by Melanie Stang during the summer of 2020 as part of the Emergence Festival, Les Misérables brought performers together during an unprecedented moment for the arts. I directed Shrek at MEL’s School of Music & Theatre with a cast of young performers ages 7–12, bringing its humor, heart, and message of self-acceptance to life. My approach emphasized character development, storytelling, and ensemble collaboration, helping students build confidence and discover their individual strengths while working together to create a joyful theatrical experience.
Directed by Melanie Stang, A Trip to the Underground was an original musical revue featuring songs and stories inspired by Greek mythology. Created during a time when performers were required to wear masks, the production celebrates the students’ resilience, creativity, and determination to continue making theatre together despite extraordinary circumstances.
Produced and directed by Melanie Stang, choreographed by Jeremy Vicario, with music direction by Joe Isgar, The Prom was a joyful and heartfelt production celebrating courage, acceptance, and the freedom to be exactly who you are. The talented young cast brought its humor, energy, and powerful message to life through vibrant musical numbers, expressive storytelling, and an unforgettable ensemble spirit.
Performed at St. Francis High School, Into the Woods was directed by Daniel Lendzian, choreographed by Natasha McMahon, with music direction by Hudson Smith and vocal coaching by Maeghan Viapiano. This ambitious production transported audiences into a magical world where familiar fairy-tale characters discovered that getting their wishes was only the beginning, showcasing intricate music, imaginative staging, strong character work, and a talented young ensemble.
Performed at Alleyway Theatre, Disney’s Descendants was directed by Anthony Chavers and Jeremy Vicario and produced by Melanie Stang. This energetic musical adventure featured bold characters, exciting choreography, and a talented young ensemble—including several students who have since continued their journeys in professional and collegiate theatre.
During MEL’s Summer Musical Theatre Camp, students worked together to bring the magical world of Frozen to life. The camp culminated in a special performance at Hilbert College, where the young cast showcased their growth, creativity, teamwork, and love of performing through beloved songs, lively choreography, and heartfelt storytelling.
